Talking Points
Sydney has been hit by its heaviest rain in 30 years, bringing widespread flooding but also putting out two massive bushfires in New South Wales.
Australia’s weather agency said 391.6mm of rain had fallen in the past four days in Sydney, more than three times the average rainfall for February.
About 100,000 homes are without power, and officials have warned flash floods could be life-threatening.
But the rainfall means only 17 fires are still burning across the state. here…..

In Australia, just like California, there’s all sorts of money to spend on ‘green’ projects that actually ruin the environment, but no money available to do things like proper forest management, prosecution of arsonists, building infrastructure to store water from the frequent floods that hammer the continent (instead of letting it run off into the sea, taking critical topsoil with it.)
One minute floods with no water storage.
Next minute fires and moaning because there’s no water storage.
One minute floods with no water storage.
Next minute whining about no water stored for drinking…
See a cycle here?
+/- 1.5 inches of rain over four days?
15″ in 4 days possibly exceeds the soils ability to absorb it causing flooding.
Which is where creating water retention facilities comes in to play.
15″ rains over 4 days is not unusual in Australia, or in Arizona either. It happens. Would be nice if there were dams and catchment facilities for all that water, yes?
But the Damn Dams spoil the view of nature. Same problem inh the Kali People’s Republic.
