My dad never “hit” me.
It only took him picking me up by the shirt collar and giving me a healthy shaking after I’d smacked my smaller sister over which TV program we were gonna watch (families only had ONE TV then) that etched a strong message in my mind.
Although I hadn’t experienced any physical pain the threat of receiving future punishment was enough to make me think twice before going off the deep end.
Till this day I firmly believe “pain is the best motivator”.
TJ-I was never “hit” butt my ass would tell you how many time a belt has visited. An I deserved it, and the better for it. It is not abuse, it is a lesson. Painful as that may seem to some. Time out does not work.

+1 on the ass tanning, had a few of them, it wasn’t the pain, but the shame from it from parents and one principal that kept me from repeating the mistakes 🙂

Tough love ya know. The old saying “this is gonna hurt me worse than it will hurt you” is in play here.
