Being Offended Is Not A Bad Thing

Being Offended Is Not A Bad Thing

“The whole idea of ‘hate speech’ needs to be removed from our legal system immediately. Aside from the numerous problems involved with deciding what is and what isn’t ‘hate speech’ (and who gets to define what it is), allowing the most timorous snowflakes to set the boundaries is a surefire recipe for tyranny. And besides all that, the expectation that you somehow have a right not to be offended is ludicrous. Being offended is good. Being offended is healthy. Being offended leads to self-examination. That’s how discourse progresses. Anything new is bound to offend at least one person. If nobody is offended, then nobody is thinking.”

  1. The final quatrain of an autobiographical poem I wrote some time back is this:

“It’s like my Granddad told me, “Son,
when you have seen your whole life’s run
    and never pissed off anyone,
you haven’t got much said or done.”

  2. The Oregon Muse is absolutely correct as was your dad, bocopro. The whole idea of any speech being off limits because it hurt someone’s feelings is despotic. But the very idea of limiting free speech for any reason other than slander or truly egregious danger to the public is anti-American.

  3. It’s part of the Democrat “everybody’s a victim” game plan and victims vote for a political party that promises (but never does) give them things. If you your feelings are hurt by the evil “hate speech” you’re part of the hurt feelings victim club.

Remember pussy snowflakes your “feelings” are not my responsibility. They are your responsibility and it isn’t government’s responsibility to protect your whiny ass, so suck it up.
