The three richest “counties” in the United States are all within 10 miles of Washington DC.

The City of Falls Church, Va.–which the Census Bureau treats as a “county” because it is an independent city that is not a part of any county—had a median household income of $125,635 in 2014. That put it first on the Census Bureau’s list of the 30 counties in the nation with the highest median incomes.

Falls Church City beat out nearby Loudoun County, Va. ($122,641), which ranked Number 2; and bordering Fairfax County, Va., ($110,507), which ranked Number 3.

The center of Falls Church City—at Broad and Washington streets–is only about 7 miles by road from the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, which crosses the Potomac River into Washington, D.C.

In the five-year period from 2010-2014, according to the Census Bureau’s estimate, there were 7,290 Falls Church City residents 16 and older who were employed. 2,389 of these—or 32.8 percent—worked for government.

And that doesn’t take into account lobbyists and other parasites that suck off the government teet. This is why Washington is broken, the corruption and incompetence at all levels is paid for by the taxpayer who has no say in how much they make, thus government becomes a defacto industry that produces nothing and gets paid handsomely for it.

These uber wealthy individuals are making policy and regulations to keep the money pouring in, along with whatever side deals they can make to line their own pockets. It’s no way to run a country but I guarantee they will fight to keep the status quo.
