Update:
Apparently I have lost 5 months worth of images when I did some maintenance on my site. It has nothing to do with WordPress, it was something I did without knowing I was doing it. Since the majority of my posts have images to make a point, I deleted all of the posts that were effected…..bummer.

Copy everything to a separate drive, and use something like Carbonite.
Rickvid – Basically the loss was my fault, started dumping some of my image library not knowing I would lose the images tied to the posts.
