McDonalds Walk Outs Cause Closures

McDonalds Walk Outs Cause Closures

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) A local McDonald’s restaurant was forced to close after its employees walked out and hundreds gathered outside to protest for higher wages. The restaurant on 8 Mile and Lahser roads along the Detroit/Southfield city line was just one location locally where fast food workers are participating in a nationwide “walkout for better wages.” Over 200 protestors crowded the restaurant, carrying signs that read “We are worth more. Strike for 15,” as in $15 an hour

Fire ’em, hire new workers. From what I understand there are plenty of people looking for work in Detroit.

McDonald’s jobs generally were not meant as a career choice for many, it was for kids learning a little work ethic and put some cash in their pockets. During the hay day of the housing boom during the mid 2000’s, I know fast food outfits could not find people to work because there were to many jobs and people could make more money elsewhere. These same employers then started raising wage rates on their own to draw employees to their business. All happened due to an economy that was thriving,  not enough workers, pay higher wages. Free market at its finest, did not need the feds to get involved.

Oh and by the way, why are there not enough high paying jobs in the first place? The finger is pointed at Obama and Detroit democrats and  5 years of pathetic leadership and ZERO economic recovery.

Remember what Reagan did to the air traffic controllers when they walked out? I know completely different situation but that is how you handle something like this. Here is a little history from wiki, sorry, easy source.

On August 3, 1981, the union declared a strike, seeking better working conditions, better pay and a 32-hour workweek. In addition, PATCO no longer wanted to be included within the civil service clauses that had haunted it for decades. In doing so, the union violated a law — 5 U.S.C. (Supp. III 1956) 118p. — that banned strikes by government unions. Ronald Reagan declared the PATCO strike a “peril to national safety” and ordered them back to work under the terms of the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947. Only 1,300 of the nearly 13,000 controllers returned to work.[4] Subsequently, Reagan demanded those remaining on strike return to work within 48 hours, otherwise their jobs would be forfeited. At the same time, Transportation Secretary Drew Lewis organized for replacements and started contingency plans. By prioritizing and cutting flights severely, and even adopting methods of air traffic management that PATCO had previously lobbied for, the government was initially able to have 50% of flights available.[4]

On August 5, following the PATCO workers’ refusal to return to work, Reagan fired the 11,345 striking air traffic controllers who had ignored the order,[6][7] and banned them from federal service for life. In the wake of the strike and mass firings, the FAA was faced with the task of hiring and training enough controllers to replace those that had been fired, a hard problem to fix as, at the time, it took three years in normal conditions to train a new controller.[2] They were replaced initially with nonparticipating controllers, supervisors, staff personnel, some nonrated personnel, and in some cases by controllers transferred temporarily from other facilities. Some military controllers were also used until replacements could be trained. The FAA had initially claimed that staffing levels would be restored within two years; however, it would take closer to ten years before the overall staffing levels returned to normal.[2] PATCO was decertified from its right to represent workers by the Federal Labor Relations Authority on October 22, 1981. The decision was appealed.[8]

Some former striking controllers were allowed to reapply after 1986 and were rehired; they and their replacements are now represented by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, which was organized in 1987 and had no connection with PATCO. The civil service ban on the remaining strike participants was lifted by President Bill Clinton in 1993.[9]

In 2003, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, speaking on the legacy of Ronald Reagan,[10] noted:

Perhaps the most important, and then highly controversial, domestic initiative was the firing of the air traffic controllers in August 1981. The President invoked the law that striking government employees forfeit their jobs, an action that unsettled those who cynically believed no President would ever uphold that law. President Reagan prevailed, as you know, but far more importantly his action gave weight to the legal right of private employers, previously not fully exercised, to use their own discretion to both hire and discharge workers.

A Few Thousand Years Ago

A Few Thousand Years Ago

Nearly 2,400 years ago, Aristotle wrote one of the defining works of political philosophy in a book entitled Politics.

It’s still incredibly relevant today, particularly what he writes about tyranny.

The ancient Greeks used the word ‘turannos’, which referred to an illegitimate ruler who governs without regard for the law or interests of the people, often through violent and coercive means.

Aristotle attacks tyrants mercilessly in his book, and clearly spells out the criteria which make a leader tyrannical. You may recognize a few of them:

  1. Artistotle suggests that a tyrant rises to power by first demonstrating that he is a man of the people:

“He ought to show himself to his subjects in the light, not of a tyrant, but of a steward and a king.”

    and

“He should be moderate, not extravagant in his way of life; he should win the notables by companionship, and the multitude by flattery.”

  2. But once in power, a tyrant uses all available means to hold on to power, including spying on his people:

“A tyrant should also endeavor to know what each of his subjects says or does, and should employ spies . . . and . . . eavesdroppers . . . [T]he fear of informers prevents people from speaking their minds, and if they do, they are more easily found out.”

  3. Furthermore, Aristotle tells us that a tyrant thrives by creating division and conflict– “to sow quarrels among the citizens; friends should be embroiled with friends, the people with the notables [the rich]. . .”
  4. Controlling the economy and stealing the citizens’ wealth is also another mark of a tyrant:

“Another practice of tyrants is to multiply taxes. . . [and] impoverish his subjects; he thus provides against the maintenance of a guard by the citizen and the people, having to keep hard at work, are prevented from conspiring.”

  5. And as Aristotle points out, a tyrant also attempts to disarm the people such that “his subjects shall be incapable of action” because “they will not attempt to overthrow a tyranny, if they are powerless.”
  6. Naturally, a tyrant “is also fond of making war in order that his subjects may have something to do and be always in want of a leader.”
  7. Aristotle also tells us that tyrants hunt down those who oppose their power:

“It is characteristic of a tyrant to dislike everyone who has dignity or independence; he wants to be alone in his glory, but anyone who claims a like dignity or asserts his independence encroaches upon his perogative, and is hated by him as an enemy to his power.”

  8. Ultimately, though, Aristotle concludes that “No freeman, if he can escape from [tyranny], will endure such a government.”
My Humble Opinion On Syria

My Humble Opinion On Syria

Yeah OK, lets attack another shit hole of a country. It has worked so well in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes “somebody” used chemical weapons, but lets hold off on the knee jerk reaction until we know for sure who did it.

Illegal Immigrant Kills Local Women In Hit & Run

Illegal Immigrant Kills Local Women In Hit & Run

This happens way to often around here. This accident happened a few miles from me last weekend and this is not a rare occurrence. We have a HUGE problem with illegals. I checked our our county jail website which lists prisoners and their offenses and I would guess 60% or more were hispanic. Considering the hispanic population in the community of around 5% I would constitute this as a problem.

Note that Mr. Hernandeez was deported in 2008 for a DUI offense. If you think the border is secure I have a few thousand miles of beach front property I can sell you in Nebraska.

A man accused of running over and killing a woman who was sitting on the sidewalk Sunday may have been driving with a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

Ramiro Serrano Hernandez, 26, was booked into the Utah County Jail Sunday after police say he hit and killed Ashlee Zimmer, 22. During two Breathalyzer tests, Hernandez blew a 0.169 on one attempt and 0.192 on the other, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court. The legal limit is 0.08.

“It’s baffling to me that somebody who has been drinking will even risk it and jump behind the wheel. So you got a guy who makes a decision one early Sunday morning. And because of that single decision, it’s going to change not only his life but a lot of people’s lives forever,” Martinez said. “So a split second, stupid decision to get behind the wheel to do who knows what, meaning he probably wasn’t going anywhere important, I don’t know where he was going, but I never understand it. It just doesn’t make any sense.”

Earlier in the evening, Hernandez had been cited by police for being drunk and disorderly, Martinez said. He reportedly had been drinking at a wedding but was not driving at that time. After someone drove him home, however, he apparently decided to go out again, this time behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee, police said.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday near 844 N. 100 West, Hernandez made “an abrupt left turn in the middle of the block,” striking a parked vehicle before hitting Zimmer who was sitting on the sidewalk, according to the police affidavit.

Hernandez’s vehicle continued over the sidewalk, through a 3-foot-high vinyl fence, across about a 10-foot section of (grass), over a cement curbing, through about a 4-foot section of landscaping and into the glass windows of a business. Tire track evidence at the scene shows the suspect vehicle backed up once and then forward, hitting into the business a second time,” the affidavit states.

Zimmer’s husband rushed out of the house after hearing the collision and pounded on Hernandez’s window to get him to turn off his vehicle after he spotted his wife underneath the rear of the car, police said.

Hernandez got out of the Jeep and ran. He was found by officers a short distance away hiding behind a Dumpster, according to the affidavit. When officers took him into custody, “his eyes were bloodshot. There was also a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Hernandez was unsteady on his feet,” police wrote

He was arrested for investigation of automobile homicide, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and driving on an expired license. Monday in 4th Distinct Court, bail was set at $500,000 cash only for Hernandez and an immigration hold was placed on him while federal officials checked his status.

Hernandez allegedly told police he was deported to Mexico in 2008 after being arrested for DUI in 2008 by Pleasant Grove police. In May, Hernandez was cited for driving without a valid license, according to Utah state court records.

When Do You Say Enough?

When Do You Say Enough?

Watchdogs say the rise of the ObamaCare lobbyist is another example of the “revolving door” that turns public service into private enrichment.

“After passage of major legislation, those who have networks on Capitol Hill take exceedingly lucrative jobs with the same industries subject to the legislation,” said Craig Holman, a lobbyist for Public Citizen. “It raises questions about the [bill’s] integrity.”

Nevada Union Biting The Hand That Feeds Them

Nevada Union Biting The Hand That Feeds Them

This is hilarious, but still won’t change anything. If Obamacare is fully implemented, Obama wins, if it is eliminated, Obama will be found to be the idiot we all have grown accustomed to. He and his progressive posse will not allow the ACA to be repealed, because it would destroy the Kings ego and show that every liberal who pushed for the law lied through their collective teeth.
Even with a number of unions and businesses attacking the new law the MSM remains fully intent on swinging off Obama jock strap. Sad.

The Nevada AFL-CIO unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday condemning the Affordable Care Act, known to its critics as Obamacare.

The unintended consequences of the ACA [Affordable Care Act] will lead to the destruction of the 40 hour work week, higher taxes and force union members onto more costly plans,” said the resolution.

The union resolution passed unanimously hours after an address from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). The Las Vegas Sun says Reid did not discuss Obamacare in his remarks but has previously blasted some union leaders for “exaggerating” the damage Obamacare will do to union workers and told one union leader, D. Taylor of UNITE Here, to “just calm down and stop frightening people.”

So far, though, union leaders are not backing down.

“We were told that if you liked the health insurance you had, then it would be left alone,” Nevada AFL-CIO chief Danny Thompson told the Sun. “Well, it hasn’t been left alone.”

Here We Go Again

Here We Go Again

Attacks on voter ID laws, climate change diatribes, racial tension claims, Obamacare navigators, another bus tour, and a new puppy seem to be in the headlines lately.
My question, what about Benghazi, IRS, Fast & Furious, NSA? Once again don’t look behind the curtain, nothing to see here, focus on the BS we can toss out there to keep republicans heads spinning.

Pick a scandal…any scandal….one at a time and bring some charges against someone. 2 years since the ATF gun walking fiasco, 1 year since Benghazi, 6 months since we heard about the NSA and IRS scandals. Has anyone been brought to justice? Anybody been fired, sent to jail, or at least given a harsh reprimand. NO. Nothing, Nada.

Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment for the Watergate scandal where no one died but it was assumed he could not be trusted. I don’t assume that Obama can’t be trusted, I know it for a fact, and if I know it why can’t we do anything about it? Someone is dropping the ball. 2014 mid-terms and the 2016 general elections would be great if the GOP won convincing victories, but in my humble opinion, that is to late. How come this administration gets a pass for their part in all of these scandals? If Obama walks away from all of this unscathed, he will be put up on a pedestal just like they did with Bill Clinton and he will NEVER go away.
