  1. Just imagine the “best friend” is God. Imagine the overwhelming happiness and joy at hearing His Voice.

    1. My niece was born deaf and got cochlear implants when she was 6. She understood speech right from the get-go after they turned them on. I don’t know how either, as my sister and bro-in-law had really only been signing to her directly, though they spoke while signing so we assume she at least self-taught some sort of lip reading. Even so, after “her ears got turned on” she had to learn to talk, but she never had to learn to understand.

  2. The excitement on her face as she is knocking on the door is priceless. She probably heard family when she got the implant/device, but had to wait to hear her best friend. Anticipation sills into tears of joy…but that look on her face as she knocks is something.

  3. Bilateral implant here. I had normal hearing until my 20’s. When they are first turned on implants are a bit fuzzy/tinny. If she was deaf from birth or childhood I doubt she would have been able to have a conversation at that point. Then again, for all I know she had been wearing implant processors for a while and had just visited her friend for the first time. Either way, they are amazing. I have virtually all of my hearing back and the sound quality is almost exactly like natural hearing.

  4. I lost my sense of smell(it was sketchy at that time anyway) after I got covid in March of 2020.

I wonder how misty everyone would be if I came to a friend’s house and could smell him for the first time in years?

    yeah I know
