There’s a story behind this photo. These cars belonged to a salvage outfit, meaning the owner took parts ‘n pieces from wrecks to make serviceable cars and sold the rest as parts. The government decided otherwise, that the owner was withholding scrap needed for the war effort. So they confiscated the lot, destroying scarce automobiles and his business. Absolute power corrupts powerfully.

Not much different than the Obama ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program. The owners of those old cars received more cash, but the buyer of one (who NEEDED a low cost car, lacking funds) was left out in the cold. Too, the junk dealers who had parts for those vintage suddenly found themselves stuck with scrap metal instead. So they traded the parts in, leaving those who wanted to restore cars without replacement parts.
Sounds a lot like Cuba, right ?
