The House Of Representatives Has Every Right To Withhold Funding – Senate or No Senate

The House Of Representatives Has Every Right To Withhold Funding – Senate or No Senate

Why the hell is the GOP playing games with these asshats, if they hold the power of the purse, they can do what they want regardless of the Senate. Why can’t they articulate this?

Who Shut Down the Government?

by Thomas Sowell

Even when it comes to something as basic, and apparently as simple and straightforward, as the question of who shut down the federal government, there are diametrically opposite answers, depending on whether you talk to Democrats or to Republicans.

There is really nothing complicated about the facts. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted all the money required to keep all government activities going — except for ObamaCare.

This is not a matter of opinion. You can check the Congressional Record.

As for the House of Representatives’ right to grant or withhold money, that is not a matter of opinion either. You can check the Constitution of the United States. All spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives, which means that Congressmen there have a right to decide whether or not they want to spend money on a particular government activity.

Whether ObamaCare is good, bad or indifferent is a matter of opinion. But it is a matter of fact that members of the House of Representatives have a right to make spending decisions based on their opinion.

ObamaCare is indeed “the law of the land,” as its supporters keep saying, and the Supreme Court has upheld its Constitutionality.

But the whole point of having a division of powers within the federal government is that each branch can decide independently what it wants to do or not do, regardless of what the other branches do, when exercising the powers specifically granted to that branch by the Constitution.

The hundreds of thousands of government workers who have been laid off are not idle because the House of Representatives did not vote enough money to pay their salaries or the other expenses of their agencies — unless they are in an agency that would administer ObamaCare.

Since we cannot read minds, we cannot say who — if anybody — “wants to shut down the government.” But we do know who had the option to keep the government running and chose not to. The money voted by the House of Representatives covered everything that the government does, except for ObamaCare.

The Senate chose not to vote to authorize that money to be spent, because it did not include money for ObamaCare. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says that he wants a “clean” bill from the House of Representatives, and some in the media keep repeating the word “clean” like a mantra. But what is unclean about not giving Harry Reid everything he wants?

If Senator Reid and President Obama refuse to accept the money required to run the government, because it leaves out the money they want to run ObamaCare, that is their right. But that is also their responsibility.

You cannot blame other people for not giving you everything you want. And it is a fraud to blame them when you refuse to use the money they did vote, even when it is ample to pay for everything else in the government.

When Barack Obama keeps claiming that it is some new outrage for those who control the money to try to change government policy by granting or withholding money, that is simply a bald-faced lie. You can check the history of other examples of “legislation by appropriation” as it used to be called.

Whether legislation by appropriation is a good idea or a bad idea is a matter of opinion. But whether it is both legal and not unprecedented is a matter of fact.

Perhaps the biggest of the big lies is that the government will not be able to pay what it owes on the national debt, creating a danger of default. Tax money keeps coming into the Treasury during the shutdown, and it vastly exceeds the interest that has to be paid on the national debt.

Even if the debt ceiling is not lifted, that only means that government is not allowed to run up new debt. But that does not mean that it is unable to pay the interest on existing debt.

None of this is rocket science. But unless the Republicans get their side of the story out — and articulation has never been their strong suit — the lies will win. More important, the whole country will lose.

Insert Foot In Mouth – Obama Again

Insert Foot In Mouth – Obama Again

Much like not knowing where the gulf states are, Obama tosses this jewel out there.

Obama: Why, Just Imagine If a Worker Wanted to Extract Concessions from a Factory. And So He Stopped Working and Shut the Factory Down. Imagine Such a Thing. He’d be Fired!

There’s nothing more dangerous than the Egotistical Idiot whose personality dysfunctions effectively hide his incompetence from himself. Such a man will make mistake after mistake after mistake, and will never learn a damn thing from it, because his Ego will just keep telling him, “You’re the best.” – Ace

Memorials Stay Open Through Shutdowns…..Normally

Memorials Stay Open Through Shutdowns…..Normally

Add our military academies to the list: Prior shutdowns did not shutter intercollegiate academics and athletics. The White House has ordered them suspended, causing Army, Navy and Air Force teams (soccer, football, rugby, equestrian, debate, speech, etc.) not only barred from competition, but barred from practice too. Academy instructors have had to leave as most are not regular military. Our cadets are eating emergency stashes of extremely high calorie and high fat MREs (confirming Michelle Obama is a fraud), all because the AWOL commander in chief ordered them punished so that he might benefit from press blaming it on the House Republicans.

Allen West = Common Sense

Allen West = Common Sense

This guy gets it, does not matter skin color.

Let me take a few moments to simply explain what has happened in Washington DC. Once the President signs something into law, it is supposed to apply to everyone, unless that president is Obama. He has granted waivers, exemptions, and delays to his cronies and allies.

House Republicans asked that if delays, waivers, and exemptions to this “fantastic” law were good for some, they should be good for all Americans. But Obama, Reid, and Pelosi said no.

House Republicans asked that a specific 2.3% medical device tax, which is causing jobs to ship overseas, be repealed. Again, Obama, Reid, and Pelosi said no.

And now Obama is threatening to veto a measure to support veterans program spending.

Obama, the liberal media, and Democrats are lying to you America. They don’t give a damn about you, just power. Obamacare is not a law, according to our Constitutional Republic, because laws apply to everyone. But not in King Obama’s empire.

The Shutdown…

The Shutdown…

….hasn’t effected me one little bit. I have been in the private sector my entire life with zero luxurious benefits or high pay. How did things become so backwards? Oh that’s right, they can vote themselves whatever they want. I have no sympathy…sorry.

It Begins

It Begins

Number one, I don’t give a shit about a panda cub.
Number two, MSN is jumping on the main stream liberal media bandwagon with this pathetic attempt at tugging on peoples heart strings. Much like the sequester cuts shutting down the Blue Angels, this administration will shutdown anything that the public deems popular, and blames it on the shutdown. It hasn’t stopped Dear Leader from any of his perpetual campaigning, or globe trotting to wherever when he should stay in Washington and at least act presidential.

The National Zoo’s beloved panda cam and all other live animal cameras from the zoo have gone dark with the government shutdown.

The zoo itself will be closed to visitors starting Tuesday. A zoo spokeswoman says the live animal cameras went offline Tuesday morning and furloughed staff will be allowed to conduct an orderly shutdown. Officials say the shutdown won’t affect care of the animals.

The zoo tweeted Monday that “The cams (incl. the panda cams) require federal resources, especially staff, to run. They have not been deemed essential …”

We have a zoo in my city that is not funded by the government. Why do we have a National Zoo, that I am sure charges a fee for entrance, yet it’s employees are paid with tax dollars?

Detroit Back In The News

Detroit Back In The News

Romney said let it go into bankruptcy…..

Obama said “We refused to throw in the towel and do nothing. We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt. I bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later, that bet is paying off in a big way,”

A stunning new actuary report on Detroit’s pension implosion has revealed that Detroit trustees doled out nearly $2 billion in undisclosed holiday “bonuses” to Detroit workers and retirees negotiated by the city and its unions. Internally, officials called the bonuses “13th checks.” “People were having a hard time, living hand-to-mouth, and we thought we would give them some extra,” Detroit pension trustee spokesperson Tina Bassett said.

Almost everyone received a bonus. “Most of the trustees on Detroit’s two pension boards represent organized labor, and for years they could outvote anyone who challenged the payments,” reports the New York TimesFinancial journalist Megan McArdle, writing for Bloomberg, says the findings left her “speechless” and that “it’s hard to overstate how bad this is.”

The Times asked Detroit’s independent auditor general from 1995 to 2005, Joseph Harris, what legal authority Detroit trustees used to issue the holiday bonuses. “My understanding was, it had to be approved by City Council, and the council was under the belief that the money was there–that the pension funds were earning the money–with the consideration that in bad times the city would be making up the difference.”

Harris added: “I hate to say that. Ultimately the fund has to be funded by the taxpayers.”

The union-brokered $2 billion bonus revelation comes as President Barack Obama sent a White House delegation led by Attorney General Eric Holder to Detroit on Friday to announce a $320 million aid package.

The timing of the unfolding bonus scandal creates a politically liability for Obama, as in 2012, Obama declared that his leadership kept Detroit from going bankrupt.

Any questions?
