Glass Half Empty
I got quite a response from my “Crumblin’ Walls” post.
Let me try and clarify.
I believe that the democrats are playing the long game here, if they can get to the 2020 election cycle which begins in earnest this time next year, POTUS will be asked by the GOP to tone down the rhetoric and not jeopardize a strong defense of red state senators. As of now, there will be 22 Republican Senate seats on the line, while Democrats will only need to protect 12 seats. Trump himself will be campaigning and having to answer questions about the unfulfilled campaign promise of the wall.
Democrats wanted the government opened, they were given three weeks. that’s mid February. Let’s assume congress is not going to play ball and Trump declares National Emergency, left wing Obama judges file injunctions which turns into a six month legal battle, that’s July, the fight goes to the Supreme Court.
For context of timing, Trump announced the military transgender ban August 2017, SCOTUS ruled in favor of the Trump Administration January 22, 2019…18 months. That’s June 2020 on the “National Emergency” decision if it runs the same time line.
And we haven’t even talked about Mueller investigation, if the democrats think there is anything to the investigation delaying anything POTUS does falls right into their hands.
President Trump is getting played and his hands are tied. I understand why he did what he did, but it is none the less capitulating to those scum bag dems.
This should have happened a year ago when he had the majority, but things got………delayed.
My worry is losing his base, he’s my guy but I lean WAY right, it’s the center right that has me concerned for 2020.

I believe only congress can terminate / stop a Presidential declaration of a national emergency. The lower courts have little say in the matter, and the SCOTUS would no doubt hear immediately any such appeal from The President for their opinion. IMHO
……………….
(a) Termination methods
Any national emergency declared by the President in accordance with this subchapter shall terminate if—
(1) there is enacted into law a joint resolution terminating the emergency; or
(2) the President issues a proclamation terminating the emergency.

Pops – Even worse, at least we have a majority in SCOTUS, not so much congress.
But Roberts said there are not Trump judges and Obama judges. I’m sure they have a judge in the 9th circus already selected.
Trump is done. He squeaked by in 2016. The Demonrats have been working nonstop to increase the “margin of cheat” even MORE in 2020 so they CAN’T lose. In addition Trump has alienated a LOT of gun owners with his allowing the enactment of the “bump stock ban” and now by naming anti 2A attorney Barr for AG ( remember…it was Barr that defended Ruby Ridge murderer Lon Horiuchi). Trump will be VERY LUCKY to even win the primary in 2020. Unless he pulls a big freakin rabbit out of the hat in the next couple years he is toast.
As far as his “base” and I know it’s anecdotal, there’s not one person I know that has wavered an iota from their support of President Trump. In fact, it’s just the opposite as several fence sitters are now firmly in his camp. I hope to fuck you’re not paying a lick of attention to the polls too.
One thing however that most definitely resonates with me is Dan’s point. They are working 24/7 to make absolutely sure that there is no way that Trump surprises them again. Just yesterday it was revealed there are almost 100,000 illegally registered voters here in Texas that voted!
My question is what hasn’t the hammer been dropped on voter roll fraud because wall or no wall, base or no base, these lying mofos will do ANYTHING to win in 2020.
Let me take this time to say I’ve hit this site 100’s of times. Never comment, just read and check out the tits. This is my take on the CAVE MAN!
He did. But it was a strategic cave.
Trump is playing the long game. Nobody in their right mind thought we’d get a wall and nothing would be given. Amnesty/DACA are all on the table and I said it from the very start of the campaign: We’ll get a wall, but we’re going to lose on Amnesty, I also said it would be a good trade off. Rather than keeping the status quo at least there’d be a dam in the river of illegals flowing in.
The border issue is not as important to the democrats as keeping Trump in a constant state of turmoil is. The left already knows it will have an endless stream of poor souls who crave to live in the USA and that would not be so much as stopped by a wall but merely re-directed to a different avenue to get in. Thus their burgeoning voter base will continue to grow.
No, the turmoil is needed to ensure that Trump does not get any resonance of success going for any period of time. He could cure cancer and the left would bury the story with arguments against the wall. The wall is more of a symbol than it is an objective to the left. It is the focal point of the resistance not so much to Trump but to any republican or non-establishment commander in chief.
The left’s ultimate goal is socialism. The reason they want to rearrange our society is so the ‘elite leftists’ will be assured of a comfortable and safely removed life from us poo’ folks. Elitism is the characteristic of all deep state advocates or which Trump definitely is not one of.
In all socialist regimes, the power elite are the best fed; best housed; have the most resources at their disposal; and they are completely removed from the vicissitudes of society.
You wrote, “Let’s assume congress is not going to play ball and Trump declares National Emergency, left wing Obama judges file injunctions which turns into a six month legal battle….” or as long as we’re assuming, let’s assume after the for sure injunctions are filed, President Trump just goes ahead and orders The ACofE to proceed.
Wasn’t it Andrew Jackson who said something along the lines of, well he got his decision, now let him enforce it? Which BTW, wasn’t.
I take this view –
Trump can demonstrate that Congress was given a chance to ‘fix’ illegal immigration rules – they bowed out. Point for Trump.
Trump called for a shut-down for a policy that helps prevent illegal immigration – Congress did nothing to help or propose legislation to correct this – again they ignored their job. Point for Trump.
When Trump backed down, he is giving the federal employees a chance to get their past paychecks with a warning that the next couple of weeks could have same result. Congress didn’t budge and was willing to let these employees suffer. Point to Trump.
So in the near future, Trump can demonstrate he gave Congress a chance to do their job and was the side that helped Federal employees regain their pay checks. MSM and Congress will argue there isn’t a problem with illegal immigration – brings the problem into forefront.
Points for Trump – but Haters gonna hate, no matter what.
Anon – Good points, in hind sight I can see some positives, I hope you are correct.
And of course this back & forth on illegal immigration is not much more then a distraction from the 800 pound gorilla in the corner over there.
That is, an out of control DOJ & FBI undertook plans to delegitimize the candidacy of then running DJT and once elected to, by whatever means possible, remove him from office.
As CEO President Trump has the power to wipe the slate clean. Weissman, Rosenstein, Clapper, ValGal, Obama, Comey, Brennan…the whole fucking pack of traitors needs to face justice or you can forget about everything.
