On Thursday, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a California high school’s decision to outlaw American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo.

Officials at Live Oak High School banned American flags on May 5, 2010 because the year before there had been altercations between white students and Mexican students. There were American flags and chants of “USA.” According to reports, there were also Mexican flags and kids running around saying, “Fuck them white boys. Let’s fuck them up.”

Consequently, the court proclaimed, Live Oak High assistant principal Miguel Rodriguez acted constitutionally when he told students to turn their American flag shirts inside-out or hit the road with an excused absence because he was trying to prevent potential violence. 

 

As UCLA law professor and Washington Post law blogger Eugene Volokh notes, the First Amendment typically does not allow government entities to censor speech this way. However, order and tranquility are paramount in a school setting. The Ninth Circuit’s decision arguably accords with previous case law. At the same  time, it amounts to a “heckler’s veto” allowing violent people to co-opt the government into using its own compulsion to enact their desires.

I don’t live in New York, have never been to New York, and have NO desire to visit New York. So somebody with more knowledge than myself can explain why one of the most successful education programs in your city is being shutdown?

Mayor de Blasio brought down the hammer Thursday on three charter schools operated by nemesis Eva Moskowitz, leaving hundreds of kids without classrooms this fall.

“This has to be the saddest day for the Success Academy’s children, family, teachers, school leaders,” Moskowitz said after meeting with stunned charter parents in Harlem. “Right now, our kids are being evicted. Evicted out of their school. It’s wrong and we need an explanation. You’re going to have to ask Mayor Deblasio what the motivations are for a decision that will hurt so many children now and, frankly, forever.”

Fulfilling a campaign pledge to limit charter expansions within public school buildings, de Blasio revoked approvals granted last year by the Bloomberg administration to two new Success Academy schools and to a third that planned to expand.

At the mayor’s behest, the Department of Education conducted a review of 45 “co-locations” where multiple schools share a single building — including 19 charters.

It revoked nine of the arrangements covering six public schools and the three charters, which all carried Moskowitz’s Success Academy banner.

Success Academy IV is the highest performing middle school in Harlem and among the best in the city. Moskowitz called on Gov. Cuomo and the Legislature to undo de Blasio’s actions. “We need political leadership,” she said.

“We need someone who will put kids ahead of politics. We are a public school. Public schools do not pay rent. And we cannot have a discriminatory policy. Kids are kids are kids. They must be treated equally whether they are in a district public school or a charter public school.” Keep reading

Sorry I don’t get it. Politics before the needs of children? God help you New York.

What a jackass. Bill Clinton has been put on a pedestal, when in fact his policies caused the housing bubble, and his appetite for sex with women other than his wife is the stuff of legend. So his claims of Voter ID laws being an assault on anybody rings hollow.

Clinton cited laws that have shortened voting hours and pared back early voting, as well as measures requiring increased identification. “They are all designed to make it harder for working people — especially people of color, the elderly, those with disabilities and young college students — to get to the polls,” he said.

Why Bubba is even in the political spotlight is beyond me.

Maybe it’s just me, but Democrats are losing whatever grasp on reality they have left. I certainly hope this bodes well for mid-terms. Harry Reid called a bunch of very sick Americans liars on the senate floor, Babara Boxer just claimed that a pipeline, a sealed pipeline, could cause cancer. Apparently lifelong politicians know more than the experts….who knew?

Sen. Barbara Boxer wants to add a new element to the Keystone XL oil pipeline debate: its effects on health.

“The Environmental Impact Statement was woefully inadequate when it came to exploring human impacts of the pipeline,” Boxer said Wednesday at a press conference held with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and anti-Keystone XL activists and environmentalists.

She said Keystone would add pollutants to the air that will increase the likelihood of people getting cancer or heart disease.

Number one, it’s a pipeline. A puncture causing a spill would be the only thing that would possibly expose any oil to the environment. Much like natural gas lines, sewer lines, and water lines which run beneath your streets and buildings everyday….external causes would be the only thing that could produce anything that could marginally be construed as cancer causing.

Number two, oil in it’s liquid form causes as much cancer as spilling gas or motor oil on your skin, none, nada, zero. Her statements at this press conference are complete and utter bullshit. And she should be called on it.

There is no scientific evidence that human activity is causing the planet to warm, according to Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore, who testified in front of a Senate committee on Tuesday.

Moore argued that the current argument that the burning of fossil fuels is driving global warming over the past century lacks scientific evidence. He added that the Earth is in an unusually cold period and some warming would be a good thing.

“There is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years,” according to Moore’s prepared testimony. “Today, we live in an unusually cold period in the history of life on earth and there is no reason to believe that a warmer climate would be anything but beneficial for humans and the majority of other species.”

I blame myself. Quite a few glasses of wine, nightly news, all of the political posturing, and I am fit to be tied.

What in the hell happened to this country? Every time I turn around somebody has been caught or implicated in some kind of scam at the taxpayers expense. They just don’t give a rats ass about the money. It seems to be just an endless supply of cash for them to do whatever the hell they want. When will the American people say enough is enough? I am tired…I mean really tired.

After five decades of wandering this barren wasteland trying my best just to get by, this kind of blatant theft at the hands of our elected officials is sickening. The game of he said, she said is getting to be old hat. The game of one party “really looking into” Benghazi, IRS, Fast & Furious, and the other myriad of scandals and the other side trumpeting gay rights, the war on women, blah blah blah just seems like window dressing for ALL of them. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is ever settled with someone being held accountable.

I’m tired and I am going to bed. I hope the sun is just a little brighter tomorrow.

While the media gorges itself on the story of Chris Christie shutting down a bridge one day last year, a real political scandal is brewing in New Jersey filled with corruption, millions in fraud and waste, and a Democrat appointed official pleading the Fifth and the media? Well, the media is ignoring it all.

Even as Newark, New Jersey was laying off policemen and was pleading for more tax money and state bailouts, it has now been discovered that a heavily employed city contractor was stealing millions from the city with crony deals and bribery and it’s all tied to people appointed by Cory Booker–the man many Democrats think might be the “next” Barack Obama. There is even no-work jobs to buddies and other such criminal waste.

All this comes from investigations into a city agency called the Watershed Conservation Development Corporation, an entity that supposedly monitored and managed the city’s 35,000 acres of reservoirs and other water resources.

The Watershed agency was disbanded last year, but not before Booker’s buddies stole millions from the city.    keep reading
