There’s a story behind this photo. These cars belonged to a salvage outfit, meaning the owner took parts ‘n pieces from wrecks to make serviceable cars and sold the rest as parts. The government decided otherwise, that the owner was withholding scrap needed for the war effort. So they confiscated the lot, destroying scarce automobiles and his business. Absolute power corrupts powerfully.
