A Lesson In Responsibility

Today is the anniversary of the invasion of Normandy, General Eisenhower committed thousands of men to battle to retake Europe from the Nazis. If the worst case scenario were to have happened, General Eisenhower was prepared to take complete and full responsibility for the invasions failure.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower sounded confident before the Normandy Invasion. “This operation is planned as a victory, and that’s the way it’s going to be. We’re going down there, and we’re throwing everything we have into it, and we’re going to make it a success,” he said.

Operation Overlord was a massive campaign—an invasion of 4,000 ships, 11,000 planes, and nearly three million men—that was launched on June 6, 1944. Despite a year of strategizing and a boatload of confidence, Eisenhower had a quiet plan in case his mission failed. If the armada couldn’t cross the English Channel, he’d order a full retreat. One day before the invasion, he prepared a brief statement just in case:

“Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based on the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.”

 

Let that sink in, and compare to the leadership we now have. This man was prepared to shoulder the blame for failure on a global scale.

Obama won’t take blame for anything and credit for everything. The contrast between now and then is stark, and should remind you of why those men are considered “The Greatest Generation” because they were. What we have now is a bunch of selfish people more concerned with their political agenda and lining their own pockets, nary a worry about what they are doing to America and a disrespect for a generation of men who bled and died for love of country.

It has been oft spoken that America will not be destroyed by an invading army, but will eventually be destroyed from within. I fear our best days are behind us, when people like Barack Obama and John Kerry are our current best hope….I weep for our country and am embarrassed for the legacy of the men of D-Day for what we have become.

I don’t want to go back in time, but I sure wish that our current batch of snowflakes had the moral compass of the old days. How do you think a militant mexican transgendered bi-lesbian curious whatever, which the military is now accepting in their ranks, would hold up around the men of “The Greatest Generation”?

“What all these fellas had in common was morals, sense of community, honor, strength, the good old virtues. They vibed calm, deadly if necessary; do the right thing always, no speaking falsely, word is my bond. No showboating or colorful language tossed around just to hear themselves talk, no hey look at me how important I am sort of conduct.

“These guys were by no means exceptional or heavy-duty. They were just regular fellas, living life and doing things the right way, same as all over the country, men of that generation, Americans to their last breath. I think men like the late Chris Kyle remind us of what American men should be. I hope and pray that there are more just like him still in military service.

I’ll give you a real world example. Morocco is presently very politely Westernized, insofar as any Muslim country can be. The hip young king even married a red-headed Berber wife who looks like Maureen O’Sullivan, God help me. She appears with him in Western dresses with flowing tresses. He is making a point. One wife, hair out, shoulders in dress like Paris. It is a signal, one of many. Surfers from Europe flock to Moroccan waves, tourists flock along the promenades. European bathing suits and customs are tolerated along the beach strips. You can buy wine and beer at shops run by Christians, near the beaches.

But brother, it could turn on a dime, and the enlightened king can be beheaded and replaced by a spiritual brother of Bagdadi, swearing allegiance to the new IS caliphate. Don’t rule it out, ever. Every century or two there is a new self-proclaimed Mahdi. Bagdadi is calling himself the Caliph, and all must swear loyalty to him. The black flag with the white ball logo is his personal mark, to distinguish it from generic Al Queda or Hamas black flag with the shahada all on one line.

You get the reference if your over fifty, and the Obama regime could learn a few things.

Imagine a general from August 2013 being sent back in time to take over the war in August 1945 and then watch as American soldiers are given handbooks on Japanese culture, forced to attend Shinto ceremonies and sent out without artillery and air support to avoid alienating the local population. The command dedicates much of its time to emphasizing that its war is not with Japan or the Japanese people, but a tiny minority of fanatical extremists.

And then watch as the war goes on for two decades.

Such a course might seem more merciful or moral, but it’s neither. It prolongs the pain and suffering for both sides.

The failure by the stronger side to conclude a war when it has the upper hand is not kindness; it’s cruelty. It perpetuates the conflict endlessly, dragging it out and opening the door for a prolonged civilian resistance with all the horrors that terrorism and guerrilla warfare can inflict on both sides.

So quit the token political strike bullshit with ISIS, get it done with every force imaginable. It’s time for a strong message. If Obama doesn’t have the balls, it’s time for a military leader to step up.

There’s some old advice about not drawing a gun unless you intend to use it. It’s true for individuals and for nations. If you go to war, then you had better mean it. Wars are bloody and messy. They’re not for the sort of people who think that putting “Smart” ahead of something automatically makes it better. And “meaning it” means being committed to crushing the enemy. keep reading
