I have heard people say they wish for the days when the news anchors simply read the news. I try to explain that men like Walter Cronkite were just as partisan as those existing today. He almost single handedly turned America from supporting the troops in Vietnam into a seething cauldron of hate. He reported how the Tet offensive was a major Vietnamese victory, when we actually killed like 33,000 North Vietnamese soldiers, as opposed to 3,400 Americans. No American lives lost would ever be considered a good thing, but militarily, we won the battle. Politically, due to the media, we lost the battle, and it was the beginning of the end for us.
What Pigpen said. WC was a leftist tool of the most powerful variety. We won in 68, we won in 72, and both times the Democrats and Leftists, and the media screwed it for us.
